What are Skin Moisturisers ?

A skin moisturizer is a lotion or a cream (depending on how oily it is) which is applied to the skin (to the face) when it is clean, before putting on makeup. Moisturisers can be applied even if someone isn't wearing any makeup.

It protects the skin from the elements. It's function is to lock in the skin's natural moisture, and helps to act as a humectant. In other words, the function of a moisturiser is that it is attracting moisture to the surface of the skin and preventing the skin from drying out.

When best moisturisers are applied the skin looks less like a prune and more like a plum so to say. Moisturizers prevent and treat dry skin, as well any skin type, they protect sensitive skin, and they improve skin tone and texture, and mask imperfections.

Part of a moisturiser's composition are mostly : naturally occurring skin lipids and sterols as well as artificial or natural oils, humectants, emollients, lubricants. Moisturisers come in different types : face moisturisers, body moisturisers, acne moisturisers.
