Product Review
Ahava products bring back history by using an element popular among all as Cleopatra's
own personal health spa: The Dead Sea. Ahava claims to 'unearth the secrets of
the revitalizing effects of minerals on the skin' with the Dead Sea's mineral,
salts, mud, and water. These have been said to treat derma, respiratory, and
vascular problems.
Minerals are helpful in that they stimulate regrowth and allow the skin to hold
water better. It's intriguing to think of using a product so historically made
but we must first consider the evidence behind the mysterious claims of this
product. Besides skin, Ahava aims at hair and men as well, giving them their own
line. Products they have are Purifying Mud Soap, Ahava Mud Exfoliator, Soothing After
Shave Moisturizer, Mineral Beauty Serum, Cleansing Milk, Mineral Shampoo,
Matifying Moisturizer, Bath Salts, Mineral Body Lotion, and Optimizer Serum.
(There's also a Ahava hand cream and foot cream worth mentioning).
Ahava's Optimizer Serum in particular is what we'll go over now, since it's
specifically for anti-aging. This is a thin-based gel-like lotion that's mostly
natural, supposed to hydrate skin well, and is being bought in high quantities
lately. But is there real proof that it works as an anti-aging solution? We'll
see.
We love how it contains almost all natural ingredients, this helps skin overall.
Some are: lemon extract (astringent), algae extract (emollient), sugar cane
extract (exfoliator), butcherbroom (anti-inflammation properties), magnesium and
calcium (protects skin's barrier). It seems like a great product for complete
skin care, but as an anti-wrinkle formula? Maybe not.
We're seeing Ahava's anti-aging product line as historically fun to try for
some, but it could be better if combined with modern technologies discovered
today, like Matrixyl 3000, Collagen, and Hyaluronic Acid. We feel this product
causes a consumer to miss out on the newly-developed and more effective upside
of advancements. This makes this product seem rather limited in ability against
wrinkles.
Yet their website is pretty well set up: very informative and complete with a
glossary for their mineral terms. You can use the convenience of buying off
their website, products are described, but some ingredients aren't. We have
seen online stockists offering free samples (also for the UK).
